MP6 IS THE 3RD PARTY, FAST CHARGE STANDARD FOR THE REAL-WORLD

THE MP6 LEADERBOARD

1st
Toyota bZ4X
35.0 MP6

Although limited in overall range, the bZ4X surprised with a very fast ramp up on initial charge, consistently adding an impressive 35 miles of range in the first 6 minutes.

2nd
Ford Mustang Mach-E
32.5 MP6

The Mach-E had the second-highest MP6 ranking in our tests so far, but its interface makes drivers search for some charging information.

3rd
Mercedes-Benz EQE
31.5 MP6

The EQE had the most accurate range prediction of any EV we’ve tested, with more options and guidance on station selection and SOC upon arrival.

4th
Hyundai IONIQ 5
28.0 MP6

The IONIQ 5 has impressive range-prediction accuracy and the potential for very fast charging if you can find a system to take advantage of its 800-volt architecture.

5th
Kia EV6 GT-Line RWD
23.0 MP6

EV6 GT-Line RWD is an effortless drive in town or while covering long distances, with well-developed control responses and regen modes.  Its range prediction is not as accurate as some of its competitors, but errs toward the conservative side—preferable to being overly optimistic.

6th
Ford F-150 Lightning
22.0 MP6

The Ford F-150 Lightning was a good, early attempt at electrifying a proven, internal-combustion-engined vehicle.  While it offers significant pickup-truck functionality, its charging performance was lackluster in our testing.

7th
Rivian R1S
20.5 MP6

The Rivian R1S is an impressive engineering achievement in almost every way—but its charging speed is slower than many of its competitors.  Ramp up from 10% SOC was particularly slow on the Tesla Supercharger’s Magic Dock.

FAST CHARGING STANDARD

In the absence of a national standard, MP6 uses the most reliable, accessible network to date: Tesla Supercharger and its ‘Magic Dock’ adapter.

WHY WE CHOSE 6 MINUTES.

Six minutes is the average time it takes to fuel an ICE vehicle. When you are out of charge or time in your EV, charging speed is what counts. Further, “To achieve the environmental promise of EVs there needs to be a greater emphasis on fast charging, not range,” according to AMCI Global CEO, David Stokols.

CHARGING SPEED OR RANGE?

According to Guy Mangiamele, Director of AMCI Testing, “There needs to be equal emphasis on vehicle range and charging speed. Regardless of range, when on the road, when short of time, or short of range, charging speed is what really matters.”

TEST METHODOLOGY

With EV charging methodology established over a decade, our proprietary protocol begins with 10% state of charge, MP6 is calculated over numerous charging sessions at stations always exceeding the vehicle’s maximum charge rate.

AMCI TESTING

AMCI Testing is an independent automotive research firm, specializing in unbiased, evaluations of automotive products since 1984. The breadth of our testing includes ICE, EVs, Hybrids, FCEV and other powertrains plus every facet of measurement and product category. AMCI Testing Certification is recognized as an industry gold standard.
